2Cor.5:21-7:1 I hope you have had a chance to consider the questions in the bulletin.
Following are some answers. You may have thought of others as well.
1. Who makes us righteous? (2 cor.5:21) Jesus. John reminds us that Jesus blood cleanses us from all sin. Gen.15:6 says that as a result of Abraham's belief(faith) God made him righteous. The same applies to us.
2. What does it mean to receive the grace of god in vain (2 Cor.6:1;7:1)? In vain means that it produced no result. The Corinthians new life in Christ was in danger of being a futile belief. It did not result in new life or a new direction in life. Many of Paul's letters have similar exhortations about the hew life we have in Christ. Phrases such as "The old has passed away", or "work out your salvation with fear and trembling" refer to an anticipated change in behavior because of knowing Christ.
3. Since we are the temple of the living God, what are we assured of, and what is our duty? (2 Cor.6:16-18). God will dwell with us, he walks with us, he will be our God. We will be his people. These are covenant words taken from Leviticus 26 and are a promise of his blessing and care relating to our obedience. The challenge is for us to separate ourselves from the things pertaining to our old life (literally idols or the things originating in Satan).
May God bless you as you represent him!
